You are invited to worship with us. We gather together on Sundays at 11:00 a.m. for worship in the upper room at the home of Stan & Lorrie Baldwin. The address is 2426 Adam Avenue, Abilene (corner of Loop 322 [frontage road] and Adam Ave.). This will be our meeting place until we need to move to a larger space. Our worship time together includes praise and prayer in word and song. We participate in the Lord’s Supper and hear a good word proclaimed from scripture. Mercy Street Church of Christ is a new multi-racial, multi-cultural, gender-inclusive church planting in Abilene. The Baldwin’s say that as a result of much study of scripture, "Years ago we came to the conclusion that we are not to restrict roles or assign privilege or status on the basis of birth. We helped the Whitney Ave. Church of Church, North Haven, Connecticut, make further advances in gender equality and have been teaching and practicing gender inclusion in kingdom service since 2001. We believe that God has poured out his Spirit on all people, both men and women (Acts 2:17-21), and we call for an end to restricting the use of God given gifts on the basis of gender. "God's way, expressed in Jesus' life, teaching, death, and resurrection, is to empower others - to give power away so that everyone is freed to explore and develop their God given giftedness.” "We believe that God judges all people everywhere not by the categories of their physical births but by the maturity of their spiritual births. God graces each of his new creations in Christ with gifts to be used for the good of others. Men and women are called to use those gifts to God's glory.
