Speaking With Grace

Speaking With Grace

In the heat of the moment, you let down your guard and fire away. As the words are leaving your lips, you know you should have held your tongue. Before a response is even uttered, you are convicted. You know your actions did not glorify God. Throughout Scripture we are encouraged to tame our tongues. We are instructed to lift up others rather than cutting them down with our words. Here are six guidelines to help you gauge whether your speech is filled with grace. Ask yourself: 1) When I speak to others, do I speak as I want them to speak to me? 2) When I speak of others, do I speak as I want them to speak of me? 3) Do I choose to speak only truth? 4) Is my speech edifying and encouraging, and is it ever judgmental or condemning? 5) Do I speak fairly of others? 6) Do I realize I always am speaking as an ambassador of Christ? As Paul says, “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father” Colossians 3:17. Amen.

Grace and peace to you,
