Some biblical principles...
The Bible contains principles which are relevant to
particular questions. Take marriage as an example.
Scripture gives us general guidance and settles some issues
in advance. It tells us that marriage is God's good
purpose for human beings and that singleness is the
exception, not the rule; that one of his primary purposes
in instituting marriage is companionship, so that this is
an important quality to look for in a spouse; that a
Christian is at liberty to marry only a fellow-Christian;
and that marriage (as a lifelong, loving, monogamous) is the only God-ordained context
for sexual intercourse. These general guidelines are
clearly laid down in the Bible. But the Bible will not
tell any individuals whether God is calling them to
marriage or to remain single, or (if they should marry) who
their spouse should be.
grace and peace to you,
