Jesus: Son of God

Jesus: The Son of God
John 14:6-11

Have you ever known a father and son who were just alike? Some children mimic their parents so closely that the family resemblance goes far deeper than outward appearance. They are truly a “chip off the old block”—their mannerisms, expressions, and even their interests are just like their parents’.

Jesus was like this. As we reflect on the nature of Christ during His earthly ministry, we recall many wonderful things about Him. He loved people so much that He was willing to die for them. He valued relationship over religiosity. He was intent on caring, giving, and serving. In fact, people came to know the heavenly Father by knowing His Son Jesus, who was just like Him.

Jesus claimed oneness with His Father (John 10:30) and described their interrelationship: “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him. He who has seen Me has seen the Father” (John 14:7,9). Jesus neither spoke (John 14:10) nor acted outside the divine will: “The Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner” (John 5:19).

The more intimately we get to know Jesus, the more we realize that He is truly a vessel of God’s grace to us. Jesus is definitely the Son of God the Father, and His actions show it. Shouldn’t our actions demonstrate to the world that we are also our Father’s children?

Grace and peace to you,
