...power for us who believe

…power for us who believe

The Christian faith, stripped of the resurrection, does not thereby become like any other religion. It becomes worse, and less. Without the resurrection of Jesus, the Christian message and the life of the Christian dissolve into sham and pretense. They reach for something they will never grasp; they claim what they are powerless to demonstrate. Without the resurrection, the Christian faith is vainly arrogant and … yes, impotent.

But Christ has been raised! In the resurrection of Jesus out from among the dead, the power of God receives its finest, though not its only, demonstration. Having found its inaugural display in the resurrected Christ, that same power continues to be visible in the lives of those who have put their trust in him. Paul, in writing to the Ephesians, put it plainly:

I pray that… you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. [1:18-19].

By the resurrection – because of the resurrection – we have courage and confidence in the face of persistent difficulties. We have not been left alone, and we are not bereft of God’s power. Our future is the same as that of the Lord whom we serve. With him, soon we shall be gathered around the Throne. Until then, we press on. Amen.

Grace and peace to you,

For Mercy Street Ministries, I’m Stan Baldwin.
