Planting the Seed

Planting the Seed
1 Cor 3:8

Planting is one of the more exciting and joyful experiences in gardening. I learned this lesson by simply observing my children. Every spring, they would eagerly gather around me in the garden to get in on the act of planting seeds in the warm, moist ground. Anticipation ran high as we sowed new seeds. How long would it take the seeds to sprout? How many would sprout and grow? When would we be able to enjoy the fruit of our labor?

Planting gospel seed is also an exciting, joyful experience. Paul was passionate about sharing the life-changing good news of Jesus. As a church planter, he sowed gospel seed wherever he went. And whenever he saw it take root in people's hearts, he would gather them together into a new community called "the church."

Even today, most believers relish the opportunity to "make an eternal difference" with their lives. In a hundred and one different ways God gives us opportunities to sow the good-news seed. Through kind words, merciful acts, and thoughtful expressions we can share God's love in a love-starved world. The seed has not changed, and neither has the need. Will you be a gospel sower today? A planter of godly seed? Wherever you go today, try to leave behind a nugget of truth, a word of hope, an expression of joy.

Lord, thank you for the tremendous privilege of being seed sowers and gospel spreaders for your sake. May the message of your love take root in many hearts. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Grace and peace to you,

For Mercy Street Ministries, I'm Stan Baldwin.
